Ptally vs Guidewire PricingCenter

How Ptally compares with Guidewire PricingCenter for insurance pricing and rating: who each suits, how it relates to PolicyCenter, how models are built and changed, testing, AI and cost.

Guidewire PricingCenter suits P&C insurers that run, or are moving to, Guidewire PolicyCenter on Guidewire Cloud and want pricing and rating inside the same suite. Ptally suits insurers and MGAs that want a rating engine any policy system can call over an API, with readable, tested models, AI built into the workflow and no upfront cost. If you are committed to Guidewire, PricingCenter keeps rating close to your policy and product definitions. If you are not, or you need a product live quickly, look at Ptally.

What Guidewire PricingCenter is

Guidewire unveiled PricingCenter on 28 October 2025 at its Connections conference, describing it as "a unified pricing and rating application" for property and casualty insurers. It is aimed at actuaries, pricing teams and IT developers, and covers the lifecycle from model design through testing to governed deployment.

PricingCenter followed Guidewire's acquisition of Quantee, a Poland based pricing software company, which closed in April 2025. Guidewire said at the time that the deal would help it deliver "an integrated pricing and rating solution" faster.

According to Guidewire's launch release, PricingCenter offers:

  • A no-code interface for building, testing and deploying pricing models, "supported by AI-assisted insights".
  • Support for lookups, rating tables, formulas, GLMs and GAMs, machine learning models and price optimisation algorithms.
  • Analysis of the expected impact of a rate change before release.
  • Connections to Guidewire PolicyCenter, Advanced Product Designer, Data Studio and HazardHub.

The Guidewire Marketplace listing gives Guidewire Cloud Platform as the deployment, and says PricingCenter can be used on its own or natively with PolicyCenter. Guidewire's public material does not describe the AI features in more detail, and Guidewire does not publish pricing.

What Ptally is

Ptally is an AI enabled insurance pricing platform for insurers and MGAs. A model is a readable JSON file of ordered steps: lookups, calculations, transforms, exclusions and referrals. Every change runs against the model's regression test suite and goes through draft, approval and publishing, with full version history. One engine serves a real-time API, embedded quote forms, and chat and voice agents, and any policy system can call it. Ptally has served over 50 million quotes and covers any line of business in the UK, Europe and the US.

The key differences

Suite versus independent engine

PricingCenter's main strength is where it sits. When rating lives in the same suite as PolicyCenter and Advanced Product Designer, the product definition, the policy transaction and the rates share one data model and one vendor. Ptally is independent of any policy system. It works as an external rating engine called over an API, so it fits carriers on other platforms, MGAs on a broker's system, and direct or aggregator quote journeys with no policy system in the loop.

Who does the work

Core system programmes are typically delivered by IT with a systems integrator, and rating changes follow the programme's release cycle. On Ptally your team can build models itself, through the dashboard or with an AI client. If you would rather not, Ptally's pricing experts can build the model from your documentation, with no implementation fee.

How models are read and checked

A Ptally model is plain configuration that an underwriter, actuary or auditor can read step by step. Each test is a full set of inputs and the expected result, and the suite runs on every change, so you can see exactly which quotes a rate change moves. The debug trace shows every input, lookup and formula for any quote, and each quote records the version that priced it.

Analytics in the rating tool

PricingCenter brings GLMs, GAMs and machine learning into the rating application, which suits teams that want one place to build and deploy. Ptally does not try to replace your modelling tool. It takes the rating structure your team designed, wherever it was built, and turns it into a tested production model.

How AI is used

Guidewire describes "AI-assisted insights" in PricingCenter's interface. Ptally uses AI to build and maintain the production model itself: extracting rate tables from documents, drafting steps and checking them against worked examples. Through the MCP server, Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can read, validate, test and edit draft models. Agents cannot publish. People approve every release.

Cost and time to first quote

Guidewire does not publish PricingCenter pricing, so ask for the full cost before the first live quote, including implementation and any PolicyCenter work. Ptally is free to build. On the Performance plan you pay up to 1% of the gross written premium your models write. The Per model plan gives a flat annual fee per live model, and Enterprise adds a self-host option, SSO, audit and approvals, and custom SLAs.

When Guidewire PricingCenter is the better choice

  • You run PolicyCenter, or are moving to Guidewire Cloud, and want rating in the same suite as your policy and product definitions.
  • You use Advanced Product Designer, Data Studio or HazardHub and want native connections to them.
  • Your pricing team wants to build GLMs, GAMs or machine learning models in the same tool that deploys rates.

When Ptally is the better choice

  • Your policy system is not Guidewire, or you are an MGA without a core system programme.
  • You are launching or migrating a product and want it live without a licence or implementation project.
  • Your rates come from a rating guide, spreadsheet or filing, or from a modelling tool you already use.
  • You want models people can read and audit, with tests on every change.
  • You want endorsements in the model to drive policy documents.
  • You want to pay as premium is written rather than before launch.
